I am obsessed with farming, crafting and lifestyle games. You know, the charming and relaxed ones where you can lose hours simply making your house or farm look cute. This is how I came across Tsuki’s Odyssey.
Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, My Time in Portia, you name it, I’ve played it. But I always play them on console. I was looking for an easy going, on the go game for iOS that I can play whenever I needed a little break from reality.
This is how I came across Tsuki’s Odyssey. I don’t mind paying a one off price for games (unless it involves a subscription). But I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this game is free, and the in game currency is generous enough to not require any in app purchases.
First things first, this game is not a binge. It’s meant to be played in those spare 5-10 minutes you have between your real life when you need a break. The graphics and the game play are absolutely beautiful and simple.
You are a rabbit. Your name is Tsuki, and you deal in carrots. Need some new furniture? Carrots. A cute new phone case? Carrots. New fishing rod? You got it, carrots.
There are a few different ways to earn carrots in this game, and they aren’t immediately obvious. The game doesn’t have a tutorial that points these things out for you, but luckily you have me.
1. Harvest your carrot crop
Every two hours you can harvest your crop of 200 carrots. If you’re really serious about getting those carrots, make sure you’re checking into the game regularly to harvest!
2. Time to fish!
There are three fishing spots in the game in which you can catch a variety of different fish, depending on the time of day. These fish can be sold to Yori or Elfie in the shop for a very small amount of carrots, however there is another way to make money from fishing…
3. Check the notice board
Each day, clicking on the notice board will give you three different fish bounties to accept.
The bounties have a value of 100-250 carrots depending on the rarity of the fish. If you have the fish in your inventory it will show the image rather than the silhouette. Click on the bounty to accept. Some are hard to come by, hence the missing Kohaku Koi on my notice board today!
4. Answer the door!
Now, I have a love hate relationship with ads. I love that they allow developers to provide their creations for free. I hate watching them. This is the first game I have come across that has presented ads in a way that actually made me smile. You’ll see a salesman at your door from time to time, and he will ask if he can show you a product in exchange for carrots. Now the first time this happened to me I was genuinely shocked and impressed that they got me to watch an ad that easily. The fact that it is a choice to watch is also a bonus. Each of these knocks on the door provides you with an extra 800 carrots!
5. Check Tsuki’s Odyssey’s Parsnap App!
The game has its own adorable version of instagram, where yourself and your friends will post updates to the feed. Aside from this, there is also a tab at the top for bounties! This area shows things to take photos of in exchange for carrots and tickets. Simply find the item or person, snap a pic, and the reward comes automatically.
8. Find Camille the Chameleon
Every now and again you will come across Camille hiding in various areas. Chat to the friendly chameleon to view an ad for 1200 carrots!
7. Have fun!
Decorate your treehouse, fish until your heart is content, grind on the carrot harvest, and have fun. Tsuki’s Odyssey is a simple game, but it isn’t for kids. It’s for us adults that need a little escape from reality from time to time.
